Exhibition vs Competition

Both teams bring phenomenal talent, but the commitment and financial requirements differ, along with performance opportunities.

Exhibition

  • Practices Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6–8pm, for performances you sign up for
  • One performance required per semester
  • Performances are non-competitive and take place at UMD (ex. Mock Shaadi, SASA Formal)

Competition

  • Practice Tuesdays, Thursdays & Sundays, 8–11pm, every week
  • Travel around the nation to compete against other colleges

  2. Office Hours are an optional session on September 9th, 8–9pm to get feedback and additional help on your piece from our choreo team before you film your audition.

Exhibition Audition Process

  1. Film yourself performing an exhibition piece of your choice. Once you're confident in your piece, send your audition video to marylandmanzar@gmail.com as an unlisted YouTube link.
    • Supplemental videos (past solos, other dance styles) are welcome too.
  2. Exhibition auditions are accepted on a rolling basis all year — but with fall performances coming up, the priority deadline is Saturday, September 12th at midnight.
Your exhibition piece options are the Bolly and Hip Hop pieces taught on the learning days, plus a Kuthu piece (also taught in person at the NextNow workshop). Watch the Kuthu tutorial video.

Competition Audition Process

  1. Follow the exhibition audition process and submit your video by September 12th at midnight.
    • Note in your email that you'd like to be considered for the competition team.
  2. If selected to move forward, you'll receive an email by Sunday morning with a spreadsheet to sign up for a comp audition slot.
  3. Sign up for a slot where you'll perform the exhibition piece you chose and the comp piece of your choice, in person.
  4. Auditions take place on Sunday and Monday.
